An
estimated 60 to 70 percent of all decisions regarding a patient's
diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission and discharge are based on
laboratory testing.
Alexandria Clinic has its own medical laboratory where tests are
performed on biological specimens in order to get information about the
health of a patient. Our laboratory is accredited by both COLA
(Commission Office Laboratory Accreditation) and CLIA (Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Amendments) in order to establish quality
systems. The credibility of our medical laboratory is paramount to the
health and safety of our patients relying on the testing services
provided.
The Laboratory is located in the lower level of the Alexandria
Clinic. A plethora of tests including routine chemistries (organ panels,
general health panels, iron panels, thyroid testing, PSA, A1c and BNP)
as well as more esoteric testing such as hormone levels, tumor markers,
quantitative hCG, B12 and folates are available.
Hematology tests consist of CBC's with automated five-part
differentials (manual differential if required), Prothrombin time and sed rates.
Serology's done in-house are mono, flu, H. pylori, HIV, RSV and
pregnancy tests. Also, full urinalysis with microscopic and throat
screens for Strep A may be done. Wound and urine cultures are plated
here, and any cultures with growth are referred to the reference lab for
identification and sensitivities.
