Toys are fun and they help children learn about themselves. When buying toys for your children, it is important to do so with care. Hi, this is Dr. Dittberner from the Alexandria Clinic. And we want to help ensure safe playtime for your children.

Before shopping for toys, consider the child's age, interests and abilities. When shopping, read labels, look for age ranges and safety warnings. Be especially care when choosing toys for children under the age of three. Select toys that are free of small pieces, are lightweight, have no sharp edges or points, are non-toxic and are free of long cords or strings.

At home, carefully read instructions for assembly and use. Keep product literature in case of future questions and complete warranty cards.

Finally, and most importantly, supervise children when they play and set good examples of safe play for them. You can make playtime a safe and rewarding experience for kids. If you have questions regarding toy safety, please contact your primary care provider at the Alexandria Clinic.
