Buckling up your child may save their life. Hi, this is Connie Gratias, nurse practitioner from the Alexandria Clinic.

Always make sure your child, up to the age of one and at least twenty pounds, are in the rear seat, facing the seat. Harness straps should be at or below shoulder level. If your child is one year and over twenty pounds, then you should harness the straps at or above the shoulders. And if your child is forty pounds or over the age of four, make sure the lap belt fits low and tight across the lap area and the shoulder belt fits snug crossing the chest and shoulder to avoid abdominal injuries.

If you are positioning a booster seat, then make sure they have both lap and shoulder belt on. Also make sure that all children age twelve and under ride in the back seat for their safety. For more information on car seat safety, contact the Alexandria Clinic. Please call 763-2899 for your appointment today.
