Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain.
Symptoms may vary depending on the part of the brain that is involved, but
seizures often cause unusual sensations, uncontrollable muscle spasms and
loss of consciousness.
Here are some tips to help a person that may be having a seizure:
-
Remove any nearby objects
that may cause injury.
-
Loosen any tight clothing.
-
Once seizures stop, turn
victim on side.
-
Call 911 if prolonged
seizures or no history of seizures.
-
Monitor airway and breathing.
-
Do not give the victim
anything to eat or drink.
